Travel

Bologna is situated on the South-eastern side of the Po Valley on the foothills of the Apennines, it is only one hour by train from Florence and two hours by train from Venice; it also has its own International airport.

By Air
Bologna International Airport (Guglielmo Marconi) is 6 km outside from Bologna. It is served by European airlines and these include Aer Lingus, Air One, Air Alps Aviation, Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, EasyJet, KLM Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, MALEV and Meridana. The airport has two terminals.

Shuttle from the Airport to the Railway Station:
The shuttle service Aerobus links Guglielmo Marconi airport to the Bologna Centrale Railway Station about every 20 minutes, from 5.30 a.m. to 11.55 p.m.
Ticket price: 4.5 Euro. Info: www.atc.bo.it

By Train
Bologna Central Railway Station is situated on the north side of the city centre. It is a major railway junction for northern Italy, with frequent services to and from Rome, Florence, Milan, Ravenna, Rimini and Venice. Fares and up-to-date train schedules can be found on the Trenitalia website

By Car
The main motorway connection is the A1 (the "Autostrada del Sole"), which links Bologna directly to Milan, Florence and Rome and to three other main routes. The A1 can be entered from Turin, Genoa or Brescia, by the A21, at Piacenza; from Genoa and La Spezia, by the A15, at Parma; from Brenner Pass, Verona, Mantova, by the A22, at Modena. From Trieste, Tarvisio-Villach, Venice and Padua the A13 motorway is direct, as it is the A14 from Ancona, Rimini and Ravenna. All the motorways exits lead into the city by-pass (follow the signs "Tangenziale") from which branch off the roads for all directions. The by-pass exit n.7 (Centro - Via Stalingrado) is the more direct one: it leads you on a large road (Via Stalingrado) pointing to the centre.

Local Transportation

Bus
Bologna has an efficient bus system, run by ATC. The service offers frequent buses from the train station to the city centre as well as to other local destination. Further details about the service and timetables can be found at information booths at the train station. A 'citypass' booklet of eight tickets is available and is good value if you decide to travel by bus.

Taxy Service
Taxis are readily available around Bologna.
